Chad Post – Playground Rules
Written by Hot New Single on April 30, 2020
‘Playground Rules’ is Chad Post’s latest single and the darkest, most intense song he has ever put out. It is captivatingly cinematic and diamond-studded with eerie laughter from children and a haunting choir pre-chorus. This record doesn’t hold back and is like a punch to the gut from beginning to end. The mood that is set is dark, vengeful, and full of nonchalant anger—the perfect song to listen to while working out or running. This darker side of Post is something we see shine through on occasion, but that’s what makes it that much better. Capping off as the final single from his latest album, ‘Playground Rules’ almost comes full circle with his first single, ‘Unlovable.’ The artistic juxtaposition from his other upbeat singles like ‘Oceans’ and ‘Without Me’ is painfully obvious. As an artist, Chad Post clearly likes to skirt the line between gold leafed dance-pop and down-tempo beat-driven dark pop. Post has a gift for writing in a poetically cryptic way, which can definitely be to his advantage as you can apply ‘Playground Rules’ to pretty much any aspect of your life. Lines like “Haven’t you heard how the rules changed lately?” and “I thought I told you don’t play with knives” leave the listener yearning for poetic justice.
